The Underground Football League is a seven-man two touch football league with four teams that started this year. Those four teams are the Chiefs, Dolphins, Jets and Raiders. It is a way to get students involved who want to play football but cannot be on the NSU football team as well as for the football players who cannot play intramural sports because of varsity rules. It can also give the students a sense of comradery, especially if they are new incoming freshmen.
“The whole UFL organization will just bring many people in. It’s a great turnout for it’s first year, sixty people already signed up,” said Jet’s player Caleb Caldwell, Stroud freshman.
The UFL held a training camp for the players to get adjusted to the game. It also allowed the coaches to look at the players and get prepared for the draft that took place.
“Well we went out there, we looked at a few guys. We wanted to make sure our guys were solid,“ said Jets coach Edward Victorian, New Orleans senior.
The UFL games are every Monday from 8-10 p.m. for the next six weeks at the NSU football field. Everyone is encouraged and invited to come out and watch the games for free. If a person wants to find out more about the UFL, they can find them on Facebook under UFL: The League. There are the results from the draft pick as well as updated stats for the players.
